Synopsis

In the 1930s, Mildred, a single mother in Kansas City, fell in love with wrestling when she attended a match. She convinced wrestler Billy Wolfe to take her under his wing. He agreed to train her to become a champion and fell in love with her. At a time when women were banned from wrestling in many American states, the couple traveled the country, and Mildred performed at fairs, competing against men in the audience. Her exploits in the ring quickly attracted new female recruits who also wanted to pursue a career in the sport. With fame, however, came setbacks: Mildred and Billy's relationship deteriorated. Mildred soon had to make crucial decisions about her future.
