1999-05-13

Saint-Laurent, May 13, 1999 Saint-Laurent residents have access once again to a cinema complex of their own, with the official opening by Cinémas Guzzo of a mega cinema complex called MÉGA-PLEX® SPHERETECH 14 in Ville Saint-Laurent. This is the third Guzzo cinema complex to open its doors in the greater Montreal region. "Saint-Laurent citizens have something to celebrate. After an absence of 25 years, cinema halls are back in town! The magic of movies is knocking on our door and we're more than pleased to welcome this new development to our fair city", declared Saint- Laurent Mayor Bernard Paquet. With fourteen halls seating between 110 and 323 patrons each, MÉGA-PLEX® SPHERETECH 14 can accommodate a total of 2,800 people. "Club Guzzo" 23-inch seats -- specially created by company President Angelo Guzzo for Cinémas Guzzo -- offer unparalleled comfort. The new Cinémas Guzzo MÉGA-PLEX occupies a total area of nearly 65,000 square feet, including projection rooms, Café-Hollywood coffee shop/bar and amusement park featuring bumping cars, bowling alleys and kiddies playground. MÉGA-PLEX® SPHERETECH 14 is equipped with the most sophisticated visual and sound projection systems from Dolby Digital, SDDS Digital and DTS Digital. Each hall is also equipped with a curved screen that eliminates fuzzy zones at the edge of screen' and improves overall image quality. "We want to give Saint-Laurent cinema-goers the opportunity to enjoy cinema at its best in their own backyard. That's why the Guzzo family is pleased to breathe new life into cinema-going in Saint-Laurent", added Mr. Vincenzo Guzzo, Executive Vice-President of Cinémas Guzzo. MÉGA-PLEX® SPHERETECH 14 is the latest mega cinema complex to be opened by Cinémas Guzzo and represents another major investment by the company. Seventy new jobs have been created as a direct result of the new complex. Cinémas Guzzo is an acknowledged leader among independent cinema-hall owners in Quebec. The family-operated company owns nine cinema complexes in all, representing a total of 94 projection halls. Two other mega cinema complexes, one in Longueuil and one in Laval, in the Chomedey district, will be built between now and the end of 1999 to complete what is widely being called the Guzzo phenomenon.
